Welcome to PrivateSecurityRegulation.net, a website devoted to regulatory approaches for Private Military and Security Companies (PMSCs) and their activities.
Mission
PrivateSecurityRegulation.net seeks to create a focal point where interested persons can gain a better understanding of the issues and challenges surrounding PMSCs.
The website is developed and maintained by the Geneva Centre for the Democratic Control of Armed Forces (DCAF) with support from the Swiss Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA), and is meant to complement and support work currently being carried out under the Swiss PMSC Initiative in order to promote respect of International Humanitarian Law (IHL) and Human Rights Law (HRL) by private military and security companies.
Geneva Centre for the Democratic Control of Armed Forces (DCAF)
The Geneva Centre for the Democratic Control of Armed Forces (DCAF) is one of the leading institutions in the areas of security sector reform (SSR) and security sector governance (SSG).
DCAF was established in 2000 by the Swiss government. DCAF is an international foundation with 50 member states, and a staff from over 30 countries. For further information, please visit DCAF's Privatisation of Security Programme.
Swiss initiative on private military and security companies
The Swiss Federal Department of Foreign Affairs (FDFA) and the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) have launched an initiative to clarify existing legal obligations of the actors and to develop non-binding good practices for PMSCs.
For further information visit the website of the Swiss initiative on private military and security companies.
